Using COTS Software Tools to Assist in the Development of HLA Federates
نویسندگان
چکیده
The US Defence Modeling and Simulation Office (DMSO) is leading an effort to produce the High Level Architecture (HLA), a common technical framework which aims to facilitate interoperability amongst models, simulations and C4I systems and the reuse of modelling and simulation (M&S) components. The US DoD M&S community has ensured continuing evolution in the HLA by giving it their highest priority. The Land Operations Division (LOD) of the Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO) plans to improve its understanding of the HLA both in terms of technical content and its potential role within the field of distributed simulation for capability development. This paper describes the process taken and lessons learned in developing an HLA compliant federation. Two Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) software products were employed to support the development of two HLA federates: OSim, from OriginalSim Inc. and VR-Link, from MÄK Technologies. A third HLA federate, consisting of MÄK’s VRLink Stealth, was used to observe the other two. This exercise in HLA federation development gave an opportunity to analyse the HLA architecture and address the inevitable need for legacy simulators to migrate from DIS to HLA.

Development of system decision support tools for behavioral trends monitoring of machinery maintenance in a competitive environment
The article is centred on software system development for manufacturing company that produces polyethylene bags using mostly conventional machines in a competitive world where each business enterprise desires to stand tall. This is meant to assist in gaining market shares, taking maintenance and production decisions by the dynamism and flexibilities embedded in the package as customers’ demand ...
متن کاملPractical Experiences from HLA 1.3 to HLA IEEE 1516 Interoperability
As new versions of the HLA standard, like IEEE 1516, becomes available, many programs still have the requirement to build on investments made in simulation systems based on older versions of the standard. For some existing federates the source code may no longer be available or the cost of migrating and re-certifying a federate may be too high. A middleware that allows federates built for the H...
متن کاملDeveloping the Fault Tolerance Support Extensions for HLA Evolved
A number of extensions for fault tolerance have been developed for the HLA Evolved standard. The new functionality has been accepted during the first HLA Evolved comment round. This paper provides some insights into the development process for these extensions as well as some alternatives that were initially considered. Our initial discussions about adding improved support for fault tolerance s...
متن کاملHigh-Resolution HLA-A Typing in Normal Iranian Population
Background: Human leukocyte antigen (HLA) gene is a highly polymorphic region. HLA typing is required to match patients and donors for transplantation; therefore, development of HLA registries is necessary for finding HLA match donors. HLA system is highly informative, and numerous studies have been conducted on HLA allele distribution in different populations. Methods: In this study,...
متن کاملUnfriendly COTS Integration-Instrumentation and Interfaces for Improved Plugability
It is becoming increasingly desirable to incorporate Commercial-off-the-Shelf (COTS) tools as software components into larger software systems. Due to their large user base, COTS tools tend to be cheap, reasonably reliable, and functionally powerful. Reusing them as components has the benefit of significantly reducing development cost and effort. Despite these advantages, developers encounter m...
